I’m Not Retiring—We’re Just Getting Started
Six years ago, I began down a path I couldn’t ignore—a path to flip the model of philanthropy and how it funds Idaho nonprofits. At the time, I knew what needed to be done, but I didn’t know if Idaho would be ready to embrace it.
When I started Idaho Partners for Good, I made a promise to my husband, Lamont: “Give me five years to get this up and running, and then I’ll retire.” He not only gave me his daily support, but also the means and faith to pursue this vision. This was supposed to be my swan song.
And yet—here we are, six years later—far from a finale. Because what we’ve built together isn’t just a program; it’s a movement.
Over the past five years, our crew of more than 100 experts has provided over $500,000 in pro bono consulting and $103,000 in unrestricted grants to 130+ nonprofits across Idaho. Those organizations are now stronger, healthier, and better equipped to serve their communities. I am deeply proud of all these amazing human beings I get to work alongside.
But as Lamont and I sat down to discuss my “transition,” we both came to the same conclusion: the pressure on Idaho families is simply too great for me to step away now.
The truth in our data is sobering—more Idahoans are living one crisis away from losing stability. Our safety net is stretched thin. Nonprofits are doing all they can, but they can’t carry the weight alone. That’s why I’m not retiring. I’m leaning in—harder than ever. We have a solid plan for a COO to come alongside to free me to do what I do best - cast vision, live our values and document the ROI.
We are heading into a new season with a bold vision: Neighbor-to-Neighbor—a statewide movement that invites every Idahoan to take responsibility for those within arm’s reach. Because no matter our politics, background, or beliefs, we share a common call to care for one another.
So stay tuned. Watch our social media, this newsletter, and our partners’ channels in the months ahead. Join us as we reimagine how Idaho shows up for each other.
Because the answer to the question—“Who is my neighbor?”—it is you!
