Nonprofit Highlight: National Alliance on Mental Illness of Idaho

Vision Statement

NAMI envisions a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares.

Mission Statement

NAMI Idaho is an organization of families, friends, and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. We work to improve the quality of life for all those affected by mental illness through support, education, advocacy, and research.

Issues NAMI Idaho Addresses

NAMI recognizes that the key concepts of recovery, resiliency, and support are essential to improving the wellness and quality of life of all persons affected by mental illness. Mental illnesses should not hinder a full and meaningful life for persons who live with them.

In the next 10 years...

NAMI Idaho hopes to see support groups and education courses offered in person and virtually to serve every community in Idaho, with help and input from grassroots volunteer support from every demographic we serve. NAMI Idaho strives to be the organization everyone invites to the table when they want to learn about or discuss the needs of those with mental illness and their caregivers.

Why NAMI Idaho would be a good fit for Idaho Partner for Good's organizational effectiveness grant approach

This work is more important than ever. Nearly 1 in 4 Idahoans live with a mental illness, and nearly 6% of those live with a serious diagnosis like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. At the same time, Idaho is drastically under-resourced in mental health care compared to other states. Mental Health America ranks Idaho near the bottom in terms of high prevalence of mental illness and low access to care. NAMI Idaho is continuing to transition from a working board to an operating board and need help with basic systems from accounting to HR.
