Idaho Nonprofits that Support Victims of Sexual Assualt and Child Abuse
It takes courage to face the social injustices that plague our communities. But when we come together and acknowledge that there is a problem, we have the power to create real change. This April, we observe Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month to shine a light on the critical issues of sexual assault and child abuse.
The statistics are staggering, and they show us that these problems touch the lives of far too many people. It's likely that someone you know has experienced sexual assault and/or child abuse. But by bringing awareness to these issues, we can start to break down the barriers that prevent us from creating a better world.
We understand that thinking about how to take action can be overwhelming. That's why we encourage you to become educated and support the nonprofits in our community that are already doing incredible work. We can make a meaningful impact with their expertise and our collective support.
Here are a couple of Idaho nonprofits doing work in these areas. Remember, being intentional and proximate is key when it comes to making a difference. Let's come together to support those affected by sexual assault and child abuse.
Nonprofit Organizations to Consider Supporting:
Sexual Assault Awareness:
The Faces of Hope Victim Center provides support and services to individuals who have experienced sexual assault. They offer a 24-hour crisis hotline, medical and legal advocacy, counseling, therapy, and referrals to other community resources. The organization strives to provide a safe and welcoming environment for survivors and their families, and to empower survivors through their healing journey. They also offer education and prevention programs to raise awareness about sexual assault and its impact on individuals and communities.
Child Abuse Prevention Awareness:
The Nampa Family Justice Center assists victims of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault in the Treasure Valley. Since its opening in 2005, the NFJC has grown exponentially both nationally and internationally and has served as a model program for other cities looking to open a FJC. It is considered one of the “healthiest” Family Justice Centers in the country.

Statistics about Sexual Assault:
According to the CDC, over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes. Additionally, 1 in 3 women and about 1 in 9 men experienced sexual harassment in public. It is likely that statistics on sexual harassment directed toward men are higher than estimated because of underreporting.
Statistics about Child Abuse:
Also, according to the CDC, at least 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse or neglect in the past year in the United States. This is likely an underestimate because many cases are unreported.
